What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis. I use Solution Focused Hypnotherapy which is a positive, forward-thinking and highly effective brain-based therapy. During the sessions, I will use a variety of techniques, grounded in Solution Focused Practices, Neuroscience and Hypnosis to focus what you want to achieve focusing on the future and the positive, rather than the problems that prompted you to seek support.  Part of the session is a talking therapy (psychotherapy) and the other half is hypnosis (trance work).

 

Lightness, playfulness, laughter and creativity will be present during every session. The therapy is non-judgmental, it encourages mindfulness and is respectful of the client’s own wisdom. The key to successful treatment is that the shift comes from the client’s own discovery and so results are more achievable and lasting. 

 

 

 

How Hypnotherapy Works.

Hypnotherapy combines Psychotherapy and Hypnosis. The Psychotherapy in itself is highly beneficial, and its effects are enhanced by the application of Hypnosis, which enables the subconscious mind to make positive changes.

 

Hypnotherapy works by inducing a trance-like state in which you are fully aware of your surroundings, but only concentrating on the hypnotherapist’s voice. It is different from sleep and closer to a relaxed state of wakefulness where your breathing and heart rate slows, your breathing becomes slower and deeper and brain waves change. Once in a state of hypnosis, a person is open to suggestion from the hypnotherapist and able to take control over any involuntary thoughts, behavior or feelings taking place in she sub-conscious. 

 

 

 

 

What Happens During Hypnosis?

 

​RELAXATION

When you are relaxed, your mind no longer is in alert mode or searching for new information. Hypnosis is like daydreaming. 

 

REMOVE RESISTANCE

By blocking out distractions, trance removes your natural resistance to change.

BYPASS THE CRITICAL CONSCIOUS MIND 

When you bypass the conscious mind, you stop your natural habit to analyze everything. 

 

ACCESS THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

As you are distraction free, now you can focus on what you want to change by making powerful suggestions to encourage lasting change. 

 

 

 

 

How many sessions? 

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is designed to be a brief therapy so you might be surprised just how quickly you see a difference. Length of therapy is entirely led by your individual progress but to give you an idea:

 

Simple phobias can be dealt with in four sessions.

 

Therapy for anxiety or depression can take around eight to twelve sessions.

 

Smoking cessation can be achieved in one single session lasting up to an hour and a half. 

It is important to note that any treatment program works quickly and effectively when is approached with commitment and determination to making changes and ultimately it is down to the client to be willing to engage in the therapeutic process. All therapy is a team effort and co-operative interaction between the therapist and client. Changes will happen because of your desire and (you want it to) and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen. 

 

 

 

Initial Consultation. 

The initial consultation gives us the opportunity to meet each other in a relaxed environment to ascertain if hypnotherapy is a suitable treatment for you. In this session we will focus on your concerns, all relevant information in order to create a report on your current wellbeing and what you would like to achieve. Also, I will explain how I work, describe neuroscience behind how the brain works and how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help. If you decide you are ready to make a change, you can book further appointments. 

As part of your initial consultation a free relaxation MP3/CD is provided for home use.
